Gia Bảo – Journey to the “Snowy Land” of Canada: From Hoa Sen to the World! https://linkbwin.com/hsu-iie/en/cung-gia-bao-hanh-trinh-xu-tuyet-canada-tu-hoa-sen-ra-the-gioi/ Mon, 12 May 2025 09:40:59 +0000 https://linkbwin.com/hsu-iie/?p=9493 Thanks to the fully funded SEED scholarship (Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development) from the Canadian Government, Gia Bảo had the opportunity to participate in a study exchange program in Toronto during the Spring semester of 2025 – an incredibly unique and meaningful experience.

Opportunities from the SEED Scholarship

Unlike the previous self-funded exchange program in the Netherlands in 2024, this time, with the scholarship support, Gia Bảo no longer had to worry about expenses and even managed to save up for exploring new places. Toronto welcomed him with its characteristic chill and snow-covered landscapes. As someone who loves cold weather and the beauty of snow, Gia Bảo felt truly fortunate to experience such a complete winter.

Study Experience at Centennial College, Canada

During his studies at Centennial College, Gia Bảo was highly impressed by the professional training quality and the dedication of the teaching staff. The lecturers not only provided academic support but also cared about the mental well-being of international students like him. He felt the openness, respect for cultural diversity, and the complete absence of racial discrimination – which made it easy for him to integrate and feel at home.

Outside of class, Gia Bảo had the chance to immerse himself in the vibrant arts scene of Toronto. He attended the famous musical “The Lion King” at the Princess of Wales Theatre, marveled at the beauty of “Swan Lake” at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, and enjoyed Beethoven’s timeless symphonies at Roy Thomson Hall. These world-class performances not only helped him unwind after studying but also broadened his cultural and artistic knowledge.

Exploring Sports and Nature in Canada Along with Life in Toronto

Another unforgettable memory was watching an NBA basketball game at Scotiabank Arena. Witnessing globally renowned athletes competing in a grand, dazzling stadium felt like stepping into a real-life sports movie – an experience that words can hardly describe.

During the Reading Week holiday, Gia Bảo visited Banff, famously known as Canada’s natural paradise. The scenery there was picturesque, with majestic snowy mountains and crystal-clear lakes reflecting the blue sky. It was one of those trips that made him truly grateful for the exchange program opportunity.

Daily life in Toronto was also convenient. Gia Bảo was lucky to find accommodation near downtown, close to bus, subway, and shuttle routes, making commuting easy. Moreover, his neighborhood was near an Asian market, where he could find familiar Vietnamese dishes to ease his homesickness. The Vietnamese community in Toronto was also large and supportive, making him feel warmly welcomed even while abroad.

Valuable Lessons Learned from the Journey

This exchange program in Canada not only helped Gia Bảo enhance his academic knowledge but also provided invaluable cultural experiences, life skills, and unforgettable memories. He is truly grateful to the Canadian Government, the SEED program, and Centennial College for creating this meaningful journey.

He also sincerely thanks Hoa Sen University, especially the Institute of International Education, for their dedicated support throughout the preparation and participation process. Such practical support significantly contributed to his peace of mind while studying, experiencing, and growing after this journey.

The event warmly welcomed a large number of exchange students from France. More than just an introduction to essential information, the program fostered a vibrant cultural exchange, setting the stage for an exciting and promising academic journey ahead.

Academic Orientation & Student Support

The event began with a warm welcome from Mr. Edward Hockings, Director of the Hoa Sen – De Montfort Program, who provided an insightful overview of the academic environment and the unique cultural aspects of Vietnam. In particular, French exchange students were introduced to must-visit travel destinations and Vietnam’s rich culinary delights, helping them embrace a more immersive and enriching experience during their stay.

During the event, representatives from the Institute of International Education provided a detailed overview of academic regulations and policies for international students, along with step-by-step guidance on using the university’s learning portal system and course registration process at Hoa Sen University. This essential information helped international students gain a clearer understanding of the university’s operations, ensuring a smoother academic journey. Additionally, the Student Center introduced a range of dedicated support services for international students, including accommodation assistance, healthcare services, and other essential student support programs. These services aim to provide a safe and supportive environment, allowing students to focus on their studies and fully enjoy their experience in Vietnam with the university’s strong backing.

The Q&A and networking session was lively, with international students actively engaging in discussions and asking questions to university staff. Notably, they received dedicated support in resolving issues related to their personal accounts, ensuring a smoother transition into academic and campus life at Hoa Sen University.

Campus Tour Experience

Following the discussion, international students had the opportunity to explore Hoa Sen University’s campus through a guided tour. They were thrilled to discover the university’s modern facilities, from classrooms and libraries to student lounges and communal areas. Many expressed their satisfaction with the well-equipped campus and were particularly impressed by the friendly and supportive learning environment at Hoa Sen. The university staff also received high praise for their warm hospitality and willingness to assist with any challenges students might face throughout their academic journey.

The “Hoa Sen Perspective”: First Impressions of Ghent: A Blend of Antiquity and Vibrancy https://linkbwin.com/hsu-iie/en/the-hoa-sen-perspective-first-impressions-of-ghent-a-blend-of-antiquity-and-vibrancy/ Tue, 22 Oct 2024 07:00:00 +0000 https://linkbwin.com/bwin-casino-no-hu/?p=7306

In the Fall 2024 semester, Minh Quan had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program in Ghent, Belgium. After a month away from home, the senior Marketing student from Hoa Sen University has collected many memorable experiences, such as feeling the crisp autumn air for the first time and exploring Ghent (Belgium) and Bordeaux (France).

The City of Ghent at Night

A Student-Friendly City

Ghent left Minh Quan with many special feelings. The fresh air and abundance of greenery were the first things he noticed. The friendliness of the locals made the experience even more pleasant, as most were willing to help if you took the initiative to ask. The city’s architecture is a perfect blend of old and modern, featuring ancient castles, historic churches, and traditional stepped red-tiled roofs paired with comfortable modern interiors—all neatly organized and well-planned.

As the name “student city” suggests, Ghent, with more than 80,000 students living and studying there, was voted Student City of the Year for exchange students (Erasmus, 2023). This creates a vibrant, youthful, and lively atmosphere. You can feel the strong sense of connection within the student community and regularly participate in unique student activities happening every day.

In terms of language, you hardly encounter any barriers as most people in Ghent can communicate in English. Additionally, the thoughtful support from Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, a partner of Hoa Sen University, left a lasting impression. From the welcome week full of useful information to the dedication of the faculty, the process of adjusting to life in a new city seemed smoother and quicker.

Easy Travel Opportunities

With its convenient location, it’s easy to plan trips to nearby countries and cities. In just about an hour, Minh Quân could reach the capital, Brussels, while traveling to famous cities like Amsterdam, Paris, or Munich is also very accessible and affordable. The train and bus systems here offer many discounts for students, making trips even more convenient. Traveling and exploring is an experience you can’t miss if you’re a student living and studying in the “heart of Europe”!

First Culture Shocks

Despite the excitement, some initial culture shocks were unavoidable. One of the biggest surprises was that most stores in Ghent close on Sundays or after 8 PM. Additionally, the weather is quite unpredictable, with constant changes between sunshine, rain, and wind. It’s important to pay attention and always check the weather forecast before heading out to dress appropriately.

Another interesting aspect is the prevalence of bicycles. In Ghent, it’s common to see everyone using bikes, regardless of gender, age, or profession. If you wish, you can also rent a bike by the month and blend in with the locals.

First Experience Studying Abroad in Europe

  1. Be proactive in organizing your life: Studying abroad can become a priceless “self-reliance handbook.” From eating proper meals, attending classes on time, to balancing daily expenses, everything requires learning and discipline. This is truly a journey of growth for any student who has the opportunity to experience it.
  2. Keep yourself healthy: Wear multiple layers to stay warm, eat nutritious meals regularly, and stay active by walking or exercising. While it’s reassuring to have insurance and the city’s modern healthcare system, when you’re far from home, it’s best not to rely too much on external help and instead take preventive measures to avoid unnecessary situations.
  3. Make the most of your free time: Keep yourself busy by trying new experiences, expanding your relationships, and living fully in each moment. Who knows when you’ll have another chance to return to Europe? Weekends aren’t just for resting but also an opportunity to do what you enjoy, making life abroad richer and less… homesick.

Conclusion

The student exchange program is a valuable opportunity worth experiencing if you’re a student. After each journey, everyone will have different impressions and personal lessons. What matters most is how you’ve grown through the experience. If you’re preparing to join an exchange program, I hope it will be one of the most rewarding semesters of your student life.

Collaborations with Aventis Graduate School – Exploring Future https://linkbwin.com/hsu-iie/en/collaborations-with-aventis-graduate-school-exploring-future/ Mon, 06 May 2024 08:03:47 +0000 https://linkbwin.com/bwin-casino-no-hu/?p=3246 Hoa Sen University is excited to announce discussions around potential collaborations with the prestigious Aventis Graduate School on May 3, 2024 . Representatives from both institutions recently met to explore opportunities for joint initiatives that could benefit students and faculty.

The talks covered a range of possibilities for future partnerships, including joint degree programs, student exchange programs, and short course offerings. By combining resources and expertise, the goal is to create enhanced educational experiences that provide global perspectives.

Aventis Graduate School was founded in 2007, making it a relatively young institution compared to some of its counterparts. However, despite its short history, the school has achieved significant recognition and success in various aspects. In terms of achievements, Aventis Graduate School has established itself as a leading provider of graduate education in Singapore and beyond. It has received accolades for its innovative programs, industry relevance, and commitment to academic excellence. Aventis offers programs across a diverse range of fields, catering to the needs of students and professionals from various backgrounds. Some of the key faculties or fields of study at Aventis Graduate School include: Business Administration, Leadership and Management, Finance and Accounting, Human Resource Management, Digital Marketing and Technology, and more.

One avenue being explored is the development of joint master’s degree programs that would allow students to study at both institutions throughout their graduate studies. This cross-institutional model could facilitate the sharing of specialized faculty, resources, and unique program offerings from each partner.

Student exchange programs are another area of focus, with planned opportunities for students to spend a semester or academic year studying abroad. In addition to cultural immersion, these exchanges would expand academic options and allow students to gain a truly global education experience.

To meet workforce demands for specialized skills training, the institutions are also discussing the creation of short courses open to students and professionals. These intensive programs could cover cutting-edge topics and emerging fields by combining faculty expertise from both partners.

“We are thrilled at the prospect of working more closely with Aventis,” stated Dr. Phan Thi Viet Nam, Vice President of Hoa Sen University. “Their reputation for academic excellence combined with our strengths in some main areas create immense potential for innovative curricula and international opportunities.”

“Aventis Graduate School has always been committed to developing generations of innovative, entrepreneurial leaders,” said Mr. Andrew Lim, Business Development Manager from Aventis Graduate School. “Collaborating with a forward-looking, prestigious university like Hoa Sen University helps us amplify those efforts on an international scale.”

The specific areas of study being targeted initially include Business and Social Science. Curriculum development teams from both partners will work over the coming months to create program proposals.

As Hoa Sen University and Aventis Graduate School continue this dialogue, more details will emerge regarding joint program rollouts, application procedures, costs, and schedules. The goal is to launch the initial collaborative offerings as early as possible.

This is evidenced by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both parties, pledging mutual support and cooperation to jointly develop leveraging the strengths and resources of both.
