The event was aimed at equipping SMEs with the knowledge and tools to identify, prevent, and mitigate labour risks in their supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Understanding Forced Labor in Business Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the primary topics discussed during the training was forced labor\u2014a serious issue that continues to affect many industries globally. Participants were introduced to the definition and different forms of forced labor, such as involuntary work, human trafficking, and debt bondage, which are often hidden in supply chains. SMEs were urged to recognize their responsibility in ensuring that all employees, both direct and in subcontracted work, are protected from exploitation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Raising Awareness Among SMEs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While many large corporations have implemented Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) policies by the European Commission, SMEs often lack the resources or knowledge to fully address social responsibility, particularly regarding labor rights. The training provided these businesses with crucial insights into how forced labor can affect not only workers but also the reputation and sustainability of their operations. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Developing clear labor policies that adhere to national and international labor laws.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensuring regular audits of supply chains to detect and eliminate forced labor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing fair wages and working conditions to all employees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating grievance mechanisms for workers to report unethical practices without fear of retaliation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Experts at the event discussed real-world examples of businesses that have successfully eradicated forced labor from their operations, serving as models for SMEs in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Towards Sustainable and Ethical Business Practices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This training is part of \u2019s ongoing efforts of EuroCham Vietnam in general and Mekong Club in particular to promote sustainable and ethical business practices across Vietnam.
