On September 17, 2024, EuroCham Vietnam<\/strong> and Mekong Club<\/strong> successfully hosted a comprehensive Training Social Responsibility for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)<\/em><\/strong>, focusing on raising awareness about forced labor and fostering fair labor practices. The event was aimed at equipping SMEs with the knowledge and tools to identify, prevent, and mitigate labour risks in their supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding Forced Labor in Business Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the primary topics discussed during the training was forced labor\u2014a serious issue that continues to affect many industries globally. Participants were introduced to the definition and different forms of forced labor, such as involuntary work, human trafficking, and debt bondage, which are often hidden in supply chains. SMEs were urged to recognize their responsibility in ensuring that all employees, both direct and in subcontracted work, are protected from exploitation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Raising Awareness Among SMEs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many large corporations have implemented Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) policies by the European Commission, SMEs often lack the resources or knowledge to fully address social responsibility, particularly regarding labor rights. The training provided these businesses with crucial insights into how forced labor can affect not only workers but also the reputation and sustainability of their operations. SMEs were encouraged to take a proactive approach to prevent labor violations by adopting transparent, ethical labor practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
